Actual weight distribution
Production records can show the mean, spread and trend by product, recipe, batch or shift, subject to the selected system and data scope.
Estimate the annual weight and cost of routine excess fill, then compare it with an optional installed checkweigher project cost.
Use representative averages from normal production. The calculator updates the estimate from your line rate, operating pattern, average excess fill and product value.
Planning approximation: this calculator assumes a constant production rate and average excess fill. It excludes downtime, changeovers, product and fill variation, rejected packs, maintenance, energy, finance, tax and other operational effects. A checkweigher measures and classifies packs; actual savings depend on the filling process, controls, feedback strategy and achievable process improvement. Use the result to frame an engineering review, not as a guaranteed saving or quotation.
Annual excess product is estimated as packs per minute × 60 × production hours per day × production days per year × average excess fill in grams, divided by 1,000 to convert grams to kilograms.
Annual giveaway cost is the estimated excess kilograms multiplied by product cost per kilogram. If a project cost is entered, simple payback is that cost divided by annual giveaway cost.
The strongest business case connects weight data to a controlled production response rather than assuming inspection alone removes overfill.
Production records can show the mean, spread and trend by product, recipe, batch or shift, subject to the selected system and data scope.
Trend and alarm information can make gradual filling changes visible before giveaway or reject levels become excessive.
Where the filler and process are suitable, controlled feedback can support correction of mean fill without chasing individual pack variation.
Underweight and overweight decisions can be linked to an application-specific reject, alarm, line stop or containment strategy.
Product giveaway is product supplied above the intended amount without additional revenue. A small average excess per pack can become a large annual weight on a high-speed line.
No. A checkweigher provides dynamic weight decisions and production information. Reducing the mean fill may require stable product handling, suitable filler control, process changes and correctly engineered feedback.
Use a measured average from representative, stable production rather than a single pack or best-case run. Separate products, pack sizes, recipes or fillers when their performance differs materially.
No. It is a simple scenario calculation based only on estimated annual giveaway cost. A project assessment should confirm achievable process improvement, installed scope, acceptance criteria and all relevant operating costs.
